Midia Green Energy

Midia Green Energy is BSOG’s vision in line with the European Union’s Zero Emissions Goal by 2050 that is creating demand for the dramatically increasing use of renewable energy. To this end, utilizing the already existing MGD infrastructure provides a huge advantage for the development of emission free green energy production.

The MGD infrastructure comprises:

  • an offshore platform
  • 126 kms pipeline to shore
  • gas compression station onshore
  • connection to the NTS grid
  • available land surrounding the onshore facilities

1. The Development of Green Energy Projects co-existing with Natural Gas Production from Ana and Doina Reservoirs

Onshore Solar Park Opportunity

Large tracks of MGD owned land are currently available for development of a solar park either to supply the MGD project itself, its neighbouring industrial users and/or the regional power grid in the area.

Development investigations for solar power on MGD lands is currently underway.

Green Hydrogen Pilot

Looking to a hydrogen future, BSOG is investigating running a small pilot power plant on the offshore Ana platform to supply the platform’s modest power needs with wind and green hydrogen power in order to reduce the current requirement for emission generating power on the platform and to gain knowledge on the viability of developing a large scale green hydrogen development at the site in the future.

A pre-feasibility study for the small-scale pilot project is currently underway.

Offshore Wind farm Opportunity

BSOG is investigating developing an offshore wind farm at an optimum location along the route of the already existing MGD pipeline corridor to bring the power back to shore and inland. With BSOG’s knowledge of developing infrastructure offshore and its access to its own offshore Rights of Way and onshore lands, BSOG is looking to be a part of this very promising industry.

Currently BSOG is monitoring the passage of the new Offshore Wind Law that is currently in Parliament and any concession awards processes once such processes have been established as well as the connection opportunities to the power grid and optimum site location and generation scale.

2.The Development of Green Energy after Natural Gas Production from the Ana and Doina Reservoirs has been completed

Green Hydrogen Opportunity

In addition to the onshore Solar Park and Offshore Wind Farm already established the current optimal view for the MGD infrastructure once the natural gas fields have been depleted is for the production of large scale offshore Green Hydrogen as it would make the greatest use of all of the existing MGD Infrastructure. The Ana platform would contain the electrolysers fed with power from a surrounding newly developed offshore wind farm and fed with salt water from the sea. Hydrogen production produced on the platform would be transported via the existing 126km pipeline system to the existing onshore gas treatment plant where it can be compressed and injected into the already accessed NTS system.

BSOG continues to monitor the technological innovations and emerging commercial opportunities for large scale hydrogen production. The small-scale pilot project referred to in the previous section could greatly enhance the understanding of the offshore wind/green hydrogen dynamics at this site. During the strong cash flow generating production life of the gas fields all the upfront design, fabrication, regulatory, tendering and commercial arrangements could be put in place and self-funded such that upon depletion of the Ana and Doina gas fields the infrastructure could seamlessly be turned over to hydrogen production.

Carbon Capture and Storage Opportunity

As an alternative, another possibility for the optimum utilisation of the MGD facilities is to transport, compress and store CO2 into the depleted Ana and Doina Reservoirs.

BSOG will continue to monitor whether the most effective use of MGD infrastructure once the natural gas fields have been depleted is for Hydrogen production, Carbon Storage or other uses.
