Corporate background

BSOG operates assets that have a history of over 25 years in the Romanian offshore oil & gas sector. We are defined by our pioneering spirit which makes us the first company to develop a new gas field in the Romanian offshore sector in the past 30 years.

2021
  • Completing the fabrication of the Ana production platform made of the jacket and the topside at the Agigea shipyard
  • Installation of the jacket and topside on Ana location, at approx. 120 km offshore Black Sea
2020
  • Transportation of all the 147 kms of pipe for the MGD Project from Greece to BSOG storage yard in Midia port during lock down measures and in full compliance with all COVID-19 restrictions
  • Under-shore crossing using Horizontal Directional Drilling in Vadu area of the gas pipeline
  • Laying of the subsea pipeline from the shore to Ana platform location as well as the 18 km pipeline from Ana platform to the Doina well location
2019
  • In February, BSOG’s partners and shareholders took the Final Investment Decision in the MGD Project
  • Commencement of the fabrication of the Ana Wellhead Platform at the Agigea shipyard and of the civil constructions at the GTP site in Vadu
2018
  • BSOG performed a 2-well exploration drilling campaign in XV Midia Shallow block
  • BSOG completed the land zoning plan (PUZ) on all onshore lands required for the MGD Project and obtained the Construction Permit for the GTP
2017
  • BSOG welcomed new minority shareholder, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
  • BSOG completed the Front-End Engineering and Design works for the MGD Project
  • BSOG awarded a drilling contract to Grup Servicii Petroliere for the exploration drilling campaign of XV Midia Shallow block
  • BSOG completed the pipeline route and platform surveys for the offshore components of the MGD Project
2016
  • BSOG appointed Xodus Group for the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) works of its offshore and onshore facilities for MGD Project
  • BSOG completed a 1,042 km2 3D seismic campaign in XV Midia Shallow block
  • BSOG completed the land acquisition program for MGD Project
2015
  • BSOG signed a Cooperation Agreement with S.N.T.G.N. Transgaz S.A. to align plans and schedules to achieve the connection between the proposed GTP of MGD Project and the NTS
  • The MGD Project was defined. Its purpose is to put into production the natural gas of the Ana and Doina fields and deliver in to the National Transmission System (NTS)
  • The Carlyle Group purchased Sterling’s Romanian business and set up a new company Black Sea Oil & Gas SRL

2012 – 2014
  • XV Midia Shallow block was carved-out from XV Midia block
  • Completed a 2 well exploration drilling campaign in XIII Pelican and XV Midia blocks: Eugenia and Ioana wells
  • Completed a 602 km2 3D seismic survey and 320 km 2D seismic survey shoot in EX-25 Luceafarul block, 1514 km of 2D seismic and 794 km2 of 3D on XV Midia block, 125 km2 of 3D seismic on XIII Pelican block
  • The Romanian Black Sea Titleholders’ Association (RBSTA) was set in 2012 to be the voice of the offshore oil & gas industry of Romania
2008
  • Completed a 2 well drilling campaign in XV Midia block: Ana 2 and Doina 4
  • Completed a 3015 km 2D seismic survey shoot in XV Midia block
2007
  • EPSA was aligned to the Romanian legislation governing the conduct of petroleum operations and was converted into a Concession Agreement
  • Sterling Resources Ltd.’s Romanian subsidiary, Midia Resources SRL, became the Operator of XIII Pelican and XV Midia blocks
  • Ana gas reservoir was discovered with an exploration well, Ana 1, drilled in XV Midia block
2003 - 2007
  • Exploration works on the concession were suspended until the resolution of the Romania – Ukraine dispute for the delineation of the Black Sea continental shelf
2001
  • Doina 3 well was drilled in XV Midia block
2000
  • 1600 km 2D seismic survey was shot in XIII Pelican and XV Midia blocks
 
1999
  • Following the takeover of Arco by Paladin Resources Ltd., Paladin became the Operator of the XIII Pelican and XV Midia blocks
1998
  • Arco Midia Inc. was appointed the Operator of the XIII Pelican and XV Midia blocks, Enterprise exited the EPSA
1997
  • 3 exploration wells were drilled in the XV Midia Block (the part which is now the EX-25 Luceafarul block): Tandala 1, Luceafarul and Voinicul
1995
  • 3 exploration wells were drilled in the XV Midia block: Rapsodia 1, Doina 1 and Doina 2
  • Doina gas reservoir was discovered flowing at a rate of 17.5 MMcfd of natural gas
1994
  • 6250 km 2D seismic survey was shot in XIII Pelican and XV Midia blocks during 1992-1994
1992
  • British based company Enterprise Oil Exploration Ltd. and Canadian based Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd. were awarded the XIII Pelican and XV Midia blocks offshore Black Sea at the first international petroleum tender organized by the Romanian state. State owned Rompetrol called for bids for 12 onshore blocks and 3 blocks in the Black Sea.
  • Enterprise Oil Exploration Ltd. and Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd. signed an Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement (EPSA) with a 5-year exploration period and a work program of $21 million.
  • Enterprise Oil Exploration Ltd. was appointed by the joint venture the Operator of the blocks.
